Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka was on CNN moments ago to speak on the security situation in Nigeria and the efforts of the Goodluck Jonathan administration in stemming the tide of terrorism in the country.

Soyinka who spoke with the Cable News Network’s Chief International Correspondent, Christiane Amanpour called on the international community to assist Nigeria in combating Boko Haram stressing that Nigeria cannot do it alone.

Soyinka agreed with the decision of  the Federal Government to accept the offer of the United States to provide assistance for ongoing efforts to rescue the abducted students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, adding that help should have been sought from the US by Jonathan’s government long ago.

Soyinka said, “The president and his government cannot sleep easy after what has happened, no, it is not possible. Any other pretense or real indifference has ended, I am convinced about that.”

“I don’t believe in false pride. The problem has been allowed to fester for too long. We are dealing with monstrosity, the kind we’ve never known before.

“The situation has gone beyond the capacity of the federal government and it has to be internationalized, ” he stated.

Soyinka refused to comment on the first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan’s involvement in the efforts to rescue the missing girls saying, “This woman who calls herself the first lady, I don’t want to say anything about her.”

Earlier today, the Secretary of State of United States of America announced efforts made by the US government in assisting Nigeria in finding the 276 missing Chibok girls.

Men suspected to be members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect attacked the Government Girls’ Secondary School in Chibok, Borno state on April 14 and abducted the girls who were prepping for their WAEC exams.

There have been widespread outcry over the perceived slow response of the FG in rescuing the missing girls with the international community sustaining pressure on the government to bring back the girls.
