The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Omololu Soyombo, has stepped down with immediate effect.

The governing council led by the Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Wale Babalakin, had appointed Soyombo last Wednesday after it sacked UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.

Soyombo in a statement on Saturday said he’s stepping down because the government had directed the UNILAG Senate to nominate an acting VC for the varsity.

“With this, I am stepping down with immediate effect as Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university. I wish to express my sincere appreciation to all members of staff and our dear students, the staff unions, alumni, and the general public for their wonderful support and cooperation in the past 10 days since my appointment as Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university on 12th August,” Soyombo said.

Aisha Buhari returns from UAE, calls for ‘better hospitals’

Following her return from a medical trip to the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has made a case for improved hospitals in the country.

Mrs. Buhari, who thanked Nigerians for their prayers and good wishes while she was away, charged Nigerian healthcare providers to take advantage of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) N100 billion health care credit support facility to develop the frontiers of the health sector.

FG enrols 15.5m persons in National Social Register

The Federal Government says it has enrolled over 15 million persons in the National Social Register (NSR) to fast track implementation of the Social Investment Programme.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq, made this announcement during the presentation of food items donated to Nigeria by the ECOWAS Commission, on Saturday in Kano.

Singer, Tiwa Savage makes American TV debut

Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage made her American TV debut on Firday, performing on popular American late-night talk show hosted by Jimmy Fallon on NBC.

She performed her single, ‘Dangerous Love’ which was aired virtually. Savage had earlier announced that she would be releasing her third album, ‘Celia’ on Friday, August 28, 2020.
