Tiktok is having a hard time globally. Threats to ban the app from American app stores due to accusations of corporate espionage have been looming for months and accusations of racism and suppression of social justice also abound. But Tiktok has also enjoyed unprecedented penetration into markets in Africa and Asia and the platform is determined to show its value to this new found audience.
This is why it is launching a SkillsUP campaign as a way to empower its users in Nigeria to improve their digital skills and ease their transition into content creation and content marketing careers. The new SkillsUP campaign from Tiktok will primarily use Tiktok’s live features and present the trainings as a Webinar which will feature content creation classes. The first webinar starts on 1 August, and will be first in a series of 90 minute sessions specially designed to offer digital skills training to the Nigerian Tiktoker community as a way to advance career development.
Boniswa Sidwaba, TikTok Content Operations Manager, Africa, says that as a technology company designed around digital innovation and possibilities, TikTok is not only committed to educating and upskilling its community when it comes to all things digital, but is also dedicated to encouraging creativity on the platform using the variety of technology tools available. “We believe it’s important for all Nigerians to have the opportunity to access knowledge and information that can help them advance their current digital skillset for both professional and personal gain, especially as it’s likely many local businesses will require at least some basic level of digital skill from future employees.
The first webinar will be broadcast live on TikTok South Africa’s official account this coming Saturday, from 5-6:30 pm, and will cover the vocational and life digital skills that can be applied both in the professional workspace and everyday life.
