The daily scuffles we see on social media daily are representative of the state of the Nigerian society itself. Whether religious or cultural; whether Fulani herdsmen, Boko Haram or the presidency, Nigeria is warring on many fronts.
But the explosive conflict below is not on that level. It all began with History. Common history. But isn’t that how all battles begin- from simple things?
[Did you miss]: Lai Mohammed denies Nigeria before the whole world
Meet Funmi Iyanda, media entrepreneur and fashion maven who was perplexed at the ignorance of Nigerian youth:
Meeting many Nigeria public school educated young Nigerians who know nada about Nigerian politics and history. Nada. How did that happen?
— Funmi Iyanda (@Funmilola) April 28, 2017
Initially, it was all fun and games as people sought to get to the root of the matter
Because the history is intentionally removed from the syllabus, some kids don't know there was a civil war in Nigeria.

Bc they think that will make us forget our history that if it doesn't repeat itself

Kids preparing for WAEC had no English teacher, no chemistry teacher, not even Government. All the corpers had to come together to help
— ThatPortharcourtBoy (@ThatPHCBoy) April 28, 2017
It is intentional. How else is the next generation supposed to think Babachir Lawal is a good presidential candidate?
— Mutma'inna (@Mutmainna_Yang) April 28, 2017
Or my generation to think that Bode George deserves a state award? Or that Ken Saro Wiwa was just being a wailer?
— Mutma'inna (@Mutmainna_Yang) April 28, 2017
Nigerians are haemorrhaging frm all sides frm d damages done to us by our leaders dat we don't kno whc to tackle. D battles are just 2 many.
— Mutma'inna (@Mutmainna_Yang) April 28, 2017
It didn't just happen, i schooled in the 90's and lil was taught on history n politics, they'll just refresh ur memories on current affairs
— AHANNA (@84PICK) April 29, 2017
@aiyebio @kesgates @iam_mainatkhan; So tragic dat all of us calmly watched d removal of our heritage "History" from schools.

@ayosogunro They choose to be ignorant and focus more on Beyonce's new dress or the Kardashians or Davido's rants.

Then this tweet showed up and the dynamics changed:

One more thing
this can easily be said about kids from private schools, not the public schools. https://t.co/UjiSVUPREy

Funmi makes a defence
Mine fought the military, won democracy you are watching them piss on and taught ourselves history without teachers, tech or internet. https://t.co/lpfa9rfUAk
— Funmi Iyanda (@Funmilola) April 29, 2017
I'm not one of the cowards of generation that grew up in the '90s. I will not be labelled by the cowards enabling them in this generation.
— Funmi Iyanda (@Funmilola) April 29, 2017
Age like tribe and religion has become the tools of balkanisation of a lost people. That's ok but don't lump me with bastards of any period

And the vultures descended
Then everything went haywire
1. Your generation welcomed military in 83, & taught us "Diarchy" in school. You accepted them meekly for 15 years, shouting briefly in 93. https://t.co/369FSQwUiF
— orwelliANDYstopia (@andyRoidO) April 29, 2017
@Funmilola You didn't win Democracy. Abacha died, & Abdusallam bowed to US pressure. Your generation let Abiola die a prisoner.
— orwelliANDYstopia (@andyRoidO) April 29, 2017
Your generation watched the military dismantle education. The generation you disdain is a product of the misrule you permitted.

Your generation learned history? You couldn't come up with a coherent account of the Civil War. You taught yourselves tribal tales.
— orwelliANDYstopia (@andyRoidO) April 29, 2017
The generation that gave us "Youths Earnestly Asking Abacha" (YEAA) is now telling us they "fought military" & "won democracy". Sounds legit
— orwelliANDYstopia (@andyRoidO) April 29, 2017
Guess history is officially a hornet’s nest.
