Senate confirms Muhammad as Chief Justice of Nigeria

The Senate has confirmed Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria. President Buhari had on Thursday requested Mr Muhammad’s confirmation. His request was sequel to the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC) to make Justice Muhammad the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.

WHO declares Ebola international health concern

The World Health Organization, WHO, has declared the Ebola virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo a public health emergency of international concern. The declaration issued Wednesday in Geneva, indicates there’s a potential spread of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, to other countries and prepares the international community for a coordinated response.

Buhari tells herdsmen to disregard Northern elders’ advice on leaving the south 

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday told herdsmen to disregard the call to vacate the southern part of the country. The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) had asked herders to leave the southern part of the country if their safety is no longer guaranteed. But speaking through Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, the president said no one has the right to ask anyone or group to leave any part of the country.

Oshiomhole behind plot to shut Edo Assembly – Pro-Obaseki lawmakers

Lawmakers loyal to Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state, have accused Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), of being behind the plot to seal up the assembly.

The house of representatives had asked the inspector-general of police to seal up the Edo parliament, pending the time the crisis among the state lawmakers is resolved. Disagreement between and Obaseki and Oshiomhole had split the state legislators into two factions.

Delay in appointment of ministers won’t affect 2020 budget – Lawan

Senate President Ahmad Lawan says the delay in appointment of ministers will not affect the presentation of the 2020 budget. Lawan spoke with state house correspondents after a meeting with the president on Wednesday.
