Labour threatens strike over delay in implementation of minimum wage

The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council and the eight unions in the public service across the country on Monday said its members would embark on industrial action over what they perceived as Federal Government’s persistent effort to derail the implementation of the new national minimum wage of N30,000.

In statement signed by the Acting Chairman of the JNPSNC, Anchaver Solomon, and the Secretary, Alade Lawal, the council said it had begun the process of mobilising its members nationwide for a showdown with the government.

President Muhammadu Buhari has fired Usman Yusuf, executive secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Boade Akinola, director, media, ministry of health, announced this in a statement  on Monday.

Appeal court dismisses Evans’ three appeals seeking to stop his trial

The Court of Appeal in Lagos on Monday dismissed three appeals by suspected billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike alias Evans, seeking to stop his trial at two high courts in Lagos. A three-man panel led by Justice Jummai Sankey held that Evans’ appeals against three rulings of the Ikeja High Court were without merit.
