The Lagos State Government has resolved to set up a Mobile Court to deal with recalcitrant drivers of articulated vehicles who park indiscriminately along the road.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kehinde Bamigbetan, who disclosed this on Sunday, said over 2,000 articulated vehicles were removed from the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Funsho Williams Avenue and Mile 2-Orile Road and taken to seven designated holding bays during a 72 hour operation that lasted between Friday and Sunday.

Commissioner for Transportation, Ladi Lawanson, who spoke to journalists also added that the Governor who has extended the operation of the Task Force for another 48 hours, would on Monday host a meeting involving all the stakeholders in Alausa to come up with a lasting solution to the menace.

One of the governorship aspirants in Saturday’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primary in Osun, Akin Ogunbiyi, has rejected the results of the election.

Ogunbiyi who spoke with journalists on Sunday, rejected the outcome of the election on the basis of non-adherence to the provisions of the Electoral Guidelines and manipulation of the accreditation, voting, sorting and counting of the votes cast by delegates at the primaries, stressing that the votes attributed to him at the poll were much lower than the votes he actually garnered.

He has however vowed to use the internal mechanism of the party to seek an immediate redress.

The Nigerian Press Organisation (NPO) has condemned the Nigerian Press Council Bill (2018), describing it as draconian and unconstitutional.

The NPO made up of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) and other media stakeholders, in a statement signed by the President of NPAN, Nduka Obaigbena, noted that if signed into law, the bill would serve as an “interference in the operations of the media in Nigeria as businesses registered under the relevant laws of the federation”

The statement added that a lawsuit against the bill which recently passed for second reading at the Senate, is still “pending at the supreme court,” and therefore it should not be under consideration.

The Federal Government says it will arrest and prosecute the airline travel agents who cancelled the return tickets of 230 Nigerian football fans stranded after the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Nigerian Ambassador to Russia, Prof. Steve Ugba said this in a 21-minute online video statement made available on Sunday while addressing the stranded Nigerians in Moscow, Russia before their departure to Nigeria.

The Lagos Police Command, on Sunday arrested five chieftains of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos for the alleged murder of  the Chairman of its Apapa chapter, Borishade Adeniyi.

Command’s Spokesman, CSP Chike Oti, who confirmed in a statement that the suspects are being interrogated over the killing, said Borishade was allegedly shot and injured on the leg at about 6pm on Saturday during Lagos State PDP Visitation meeting held at Igbosuku Village, Eti-Osa LGA,when fracas broke out between contending factions of the party towards the end of the meeting.
