Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has urged governors of the 36 states and President Muhammadu Buhari to convene an urgent meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to deliberate on the organisation, administration and general supervision of the Police.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos, Falana said his suggestion of the meeting is occasioned by the worsening security situation in the country, adding that the meeting should design strategies for effective policing of each state of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).


Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has described the just concluded Ekiti governorship election as a referendum on the three year-old Muhammadu Buhari administration.

The Minister said the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) meant that the Nigerian people have spoken loudly about their perception of the APC-led Buhari Administration, adding that ” it was a defeat for the PDP and all the naysayers who have made themselves the spokespersons for Nigerians.”


The House of Representatives has constituted an 11-member ad-hoc committee chaired by Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin (APC, Kano) to investigate the total amount recovered from the Sani Abacha loot by the federal government from 1998 to date.

Spokesman of the House, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas, in disclosing this, said the committee would determine among other things, the amount spent from the loot on specific projects and the balance to be spent.


Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, (APC, Delta Central) has criticised the House of Representatives for approving his suspension over alleged involvement in the invasion of the Senate chamber and mace snatching, describing the resolution as an act of lawlessness.

Omo-Agege who stated that since he was not  a member of the House of Representatives, he could not be subjected to any form of investigation or disciplinary action by the House, also pointed out that with Sections 88 and 89 of the Constitution, the National Assembly had no power whatsoever to investigate a crime.


Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have killed five insurgents and arrested two suspected fuel suppliers during an operation in Monguno Local Council of Borno clearing remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.

Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Texas Chukwu, who disclosed this on Sunday in a statement in Maiduguri, said the soldiers also recovered arms and ammunition in Kwari Village of Monguno Local Council after neutralising the insurgents in their hide-outs in the council area.
