Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki announced their defection at Tuesday’s plenary through a letter he received from the defectors, just before the Senate adjourned plenary to September 25, 2018.
The House of Representatives experienced a rowdy session on Tuesday as 37 members defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The development led the remaining members of the APC in the House to stage a walkout from plenary to address newsmen.

According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, President Buhari expressed confidence that no harm or injury will be done by the defections to the APC and its aspirations, adding that he remains committed to the values of democracy and freedom of choice.
The Nigeria Police Force has vowed to forcibly arrest Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, if he fails to honour its invitation over allegations of his complicity in the April 5 Offa bank robbery.
As contained in a statement by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris issued on Tuesday, “The Senate President must honour Police invitation; otherwise the Force will not hesitate to use all the instruments of the law to ensure compliance with the law.”
Saraki who was invited for further questioning on the Offa bank robbery on Tuesday, ignored the invitation and went to the National Assembly despite a reported blockade on his convoy by security operatives at his Abuja residence.
The Benue State House of Assembly got a new leadership on Tuesday after members of the house impeached the speaker and announced new principal officers.
At a session presided over by the Speaker pro-tempore, Hon. Audu Sule (PDP), 21 members out of the 30-man Assembly, impeached the Speaker Terkimbi Ikyange, (who was absent at the plenary) over alleged highhandedness and elected Honorable Titus Ugba (APC) of Kyan constituency and Egli Johnson Ahubi representing Otukpo/Akpa state constituency as the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.
Consequently, the position of Majority leader went to Hon. Avine Agbom (PDP/Makurdi North), who just defected to the party while Hon. Audu Sule representing Agatu constituency and Hon. Kester Kyenge (PDP) Logo constituency became deputy majority leader and majority whip respectively.
