This was the first in a thread of tweets (the rest of which you can find by following the link on the tweet), currently unsubstantiated about a seven year old girl Talatu Musa Paul who was threatened with a knife and violently raped. She allegedly died from the injuries sustained and according to this twitter user, the perpetrator’s father, allegedly a senator from Taraba State used his political influence to arrest the father of the dead girl and save his son from police custody, because of the damage it could do to his career. I am angry, livid even. There are enough of these kinds of stories going around that all I can feel painful familiarity and helplessness.

. But my anger is equally directed at the alleged perpetrator and abetter of this crime, and FulanNasrullah, who made this whole sage known to us. Because he/she has provided us with nothing but anecdotal evidence that a crime was committed. He/She didn’t even bother to tell us what constituency the senator represents, the name of the girl’s father, or even the senator’s name. She told us a heartbreaking story but gave us absolutely no way to act on this information, no way to demand justice for this young girl.

Of what use then is this information; retweets, twitter outrage, our emotions stirred? If you will not give us tools to fight sexual deviance, or at least give us tangible evidence to help us take action, especially when you claim to have this evidence please do not tell us at all of these incidences.
