Kunle Afolayan is giving a directing masterclass this weekend on Youtube’s #WithMe series

Youtube has really come through for Nigerians during this pandemic with their #WithMe series that taps influential creators across various disciplines to either share their pre-existing content delivered as offline experiences on to online platforms. First there were concerts with Nasty C, TY Bello, Seyi Shay and food tutorials for Easter. Now they are upping the game with their very first filmmaking master class with Kunle Afolayan.

For those who don’t know, Kunle Afolayan is practically royalty in the Nigerian film industry. He was one of the first Nigerian filmmakers to hack private funding for films and compelling story lines that challenge the viewer to truly engage the material. He’s a true auteur and a fitting heir to the legacy of filmmaking greats like Herbert Ogunde and Tunde Kelani. But Afolayan has an eye for box office success and has also made commercially viable films through partnerships  with Africa Magic. If there is anyone to learn about the industry from, its Kunle Afolayan.

This is his first virtual Masterclass, which will kick off on the 1st of May. One of things we hope he’ll cover are the challenges of film making in the middle of a pandemic and the precautions filmmakers, actors and other film related crew need to take to keep projects running and cast and crew safe and healthy. And would it really be a masterclass if he didn’t cover his entire filmography?
