It’s super easy to be the talk of town in these parts and it’s even easier to make our losers’ list. Nigeria’s unofficial Gucci ambassador, Hushpuppi did a lot of barking talking last week while Jay-Z released an album where he spilled so many family secrets. The political scene saw Senate President Bukola Saraki talking tough after winning a victory against online media organisation, Sahara Reporters.

Here are our winners and losers from last week’s major newsmakers:

WINNERS

Bukola Saraki

The Senate President seems to be in victory season as he won his second court case in a row this time in a trial against online news medium, Sahara Reporters and its publisher, Omoyele Sowore.

Saraki sued Sowore for publishing a series of libelous content against him and the court ordered the defendant to pay a total of N4 billion for general and aggravated damages.

Best believe, Senate President Saraki went BBHMM on Sowore and responded to the court’s decision by saying he will collect every kobo of the entire sum awarded to him. Can’t blame the man, he already has plans for the money. Saraki claims he intends to use the N4billion to set up a Foundation to support investigative journalism in the country.

Jay-Z

The most talked about and most celebrated rapper of our times, if we are to go by his recent milestones. First, he welcomed a set of twins with wife, Beyonce. Then, he drops an album on us. And the buzz 4.44 has generated since its release on Friday is everything success is made of.

Available exclusively to Tidal, Jay-Z’s thirteenth album features Damian Marley, Frank Ocean and an apology to Beyonce in what has been described as a response to her Lemonade album where she accused him of infidelity.

Hallelujah Challenge

The viral online midnight praise and worship challenge convened by gospel singer, Nathaniel Bassey ended on a very successful note with the Hallelujah Festival.

Thousands gathered at the Lekki venue and there was an overflow. This apart from the number of worshippers who streamed live and gathered at various viewing centres and like our church blogger said, it could only have been God.

LOSERS

Hushpuppi

Where does one start from? There’s a certain fellow popular on social media for flaunting luxury, labels and untraceable wealth. Hushpuppi can be best described as a Lagos Big Boy who is infamous for disrespecting Nigerian artistes mostly over trivialities like their “fake wristwatches” and seeming inability to match up to his wealth.

He finally got his own last week when three artistes – Phyno, Ice Prince and  Kcee – turned on him and sent him back to where we believe he belongs. Kcee even went as far as threatening to raise a petition against him and getting the EFCC involved.

To be frank, it was the rest of us all against Hushpuppi and we simply demand an answer to the burning question – what does he do for a living?

Donald Trump

It’s over guys! This is the point where we have to admit that the President Trump has lost it.

It was a whirlwind of bashing, insults and downright shamefulness for the US president and the media most of last week. From calling Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, hosts of MSNBC’s show, Morning Joe, “, low I.Q and psycho”.

But Fox News anchor, Julia Banderas rebuked the president’s actions and we’re here for every word of it: “Listen, you don’t need to stoop to the level, obviously. I don’t care who you are. You don’t stoop to the level of that. I mean that’s like me scolding my 4-year-old for using a bad word and then me repeating it. That’s just not how you run a country or you parent a 4-year-old.” We thought so too!
