At this point, you may be expecting a little too much if you expect that Nigerians have outgrown some topics, believing that we have reached a consensus on topics that are socially acceptable and those that are not. Sadly, people still have a hard time accepting things that don’t quite conform to their own personal beliefs.

Amongst the numerous things one would expect to trend during this period, it’s hard to imagine that the love life of one of Nigeria’s heartthrob actors would be a subject of intense conversation on social media but apparently, it became gist for the timeline as Timini Egbuson became a topic of discourse over his alleged relationship with 20-year-old undergraduate, Lydia Agahan.

Perhaps, oblivious of the fact that the legal age of consent here in Nigeria is 18, a conversation on whether Timini’s current relationship was morally wrong or not took over the timeline, with people on either side of the argument. Most people, however seemed to be on the side of the actor as they saw nothing wrong with him dating a girl who is well past the range of being labelled ‘a minor.’ “She is legal and so why the discussion?” was what most people who couldn’t wrap their heads around the trend screamed.

On a closer look, the unease and argument a lot of the debaters majored on wasn’t much of the legality of 32-year-old Timini’s relationship considering the age of the girl in question, but the 13-year age difference between the actor and his alleged ‘new girlfriend.’ But again, should it matter?

As is expected, when one thing becomes a trend its finds a way to draw in other characters. It didn’t take long before names like JayZ and Beyonce came into the mix. Also, Regina Daniels(19) and her marriage to 59-year old billionare, Ned Nwoko made its way into the conversation.

You're dragging Timini but when Regina Daniels got married to ancient of days, you echoed "YASS QUEEN" "SECURE THE BAG" like a stubborn goat led to slaughter.
