Gunman attacks German cinema complex

An anonymous man laid siege on the Kinoplex cinema in the western German town of Viernheim, on Thursday.

Although the Police were able to stop the man by shooting him dead, about 25 people were reportedly injured as a result of an exposure to tear gas thrown by the police.

For now, it is quite unclear if this was politically or ideologically motivated.

The state’s interior minister, Peter Beuth was quoted by BBC to have said, “The police thought that the gunman was holding hostages and because of that he was shot dead.”

“The police had an emergency call at 2:45pm. The caller said there was a masked man… armed with a long gun. It is unclear whether it was a real gun.”

“The caller heard four shots and said that the masked man appeared a little mentally unstable. Police special forces were called.”
