Following the unpopular removal of the fuel subsidy by the federal government, young Nigerians have taken to social network site, Twitter to vent out their frustration with the government – and, as collateral damage, the celebrities that supported or are seen to have supported President Goodluck Jonathan during the elections last year.
Top on everyone’s list has been the Entertainer himself, D’banj who remixed his hit single ‘Scapegoat’ to support the president’s campaign – churning out the popular “I will vote for Goodluck Jona” song. Mr Endowned also claimed to represent the youth of the country in an interview with the president that was to become one of the most derided television moments of 2011.
Twitter has clearly become the most popular tool of organising for the anti-removal protests.
Two days ago, is producer Don Jazzy tweeted his regrets about voting for President Jonathan saying he was “fooled”, but many of his fans have wondered why D’banj has remained mute on the matter – even though D’banj is not a known user of the social networking platform.
See some of the remarks:
@ikeffas: ‘’But wia is @ D’banj??? What is his take on subsidy removal? Shey he is Jona’s friend.’’
@uwemspeaks: ‘’Dear Don Jazzy and D’banj, thank you for endorsing GEJ on behalf of the youth. U endorsed hardship. #OccupyNigeria’’
