Judge handling cases against Saraki, Ekweremadu, others dies

A judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja division, Justice Steven Evoh Chukwu has been reported dead.

Justice Chukwu, who was ill for over a month, died in an hospital in Garki, Abuja, The Nation reports.

The administration of the court is yet to issue an official announcement of the passing away of the judge however, some of the officials of the court verified the tragic development.

When The Nation visited the deceased judge’s courtroom, Court 9, located on the 4th floor of the courthouse, the officials were in a melancholic mood.

The court also has not sat for a while.

Before his death, Justice Chukwu had on his desk big cases like the trial of former Adamawa State governor, Murtala Nyako and his two children; the trial of former officials of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Sani Lulu, Taiwo Ogunjobi among others.

The judge was also presiding over the case filed by five Senators led by Abu Ibrahim, asking the court to nullify the election that produced Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu as Senate President and Deputy President respectively.
