A Shi’a Islamic organization, the Rasulul A’Azam Foundation (RAAF), has described as untrue the insinuation in some quarters that all Shiite Muslims are violent and have no respect for constituted authority.
This was stated by the President of the foundation, Sheikh Nuru Dass, during a one day summit between the Nigerian security agencies and RAAF.
While delivering a paper titled “Shi’ism in Nigeria, Misconception, Origin and History,” the Secretary-General of Rasulul-A’Zam Foundation (a registered Shi’a organization) Sheikh Saleh Zaria also criticised the Shiekh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky led Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) for having no regard for the rule of law.
Zaria said the the face-off between the Nigerian Army and the IMN will only breed more bad blood, death and destruction.
He noted that it was the teachings of El-Zakzaky that led to the violent fracas.
He further stated that his Shi’ite foundation was totally different from the El-Zakzaky lead IMN group, noting that the IMN was came fully into Nigeria in 1997 with a marked departure from the original Shi’ite group imported into Nigeria from Iran.
“Our group has never been involved in any violent confrontation with constituted authorities or Security agencies. We are peaceful, law abiding and believe in peaceful co-existence, as well as the unity and sovereignty o the country.”
