The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports that it received a N10 million donation from embattled Kano governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
As contained in a Facebook post put up on the anti-graft agency’s account, the report of the donation is a “false and deliberate attempt to malign the efforts of the commission in the fight against corruption,” stressing that the EFCC is sponsored by the federal government through budgetary allocation and “in some cases, foreign organisations in terms of capacity building.”
It however confirmed that the commission, in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Crimes (ICPC) and the Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and other stakeholders are organising a national anti-corruption marathon in tandem with the International Anti-Corruption day celebrated on December 9 annually, and for which it was alleged that the governor made a donation towards.
“The story is not only unfounded but very mischievous. For the avoidance of doubt, no state governor or some other individual or group has donated any amount of money to the EFCC to carry out the anti-corruption marathon project or any other project for that matter,” he added.
Governor Ganduje had said his administration was donating N10 million to the organisers of the National Anti-Corruption Marathon, when he received members of the main organising committee in Abuja, and promised that the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission would collaborate with the organizers, as an official partner, to ensure the success of the event.
