Davido & Tems bring Naija star power to Khalid’s ‘Know Your Worth’

Is there any Nigerian pop star as on the money as Davido? Even during a global pandemic that actually personally affected him and his family, Davido is still making moves, keeping his name on the global radar and churning out hits. His roster of collaborations were stellar and his song with Chris Brown broke barriers in American music and made Davido a proper crossover. So its no surprise that in 2020, Davido is starting things big with a new feature on the Disclosure/Khalid collaboration ‘Know Your Worth’

Khalid has been a breakout star since his record breaking debut album, American Teen. Since then he’s been one of the most progressive American teen popstars, collaborating outside of his genre and smashing records. His partnership with British dance pop duo Disclosure marks a move across the pond and attempt to conquer European dance music. The fact that he also features Davido and Tems on the second iteration of his collaborative project with Disclosure suggests both parties are trying to break into the Afro beats craze.

The real winner of this collaboration is indie darling Tems. The singer first started making waves in late 2018 and hit her stride with her smash single ‘Try Me’, a defiant anthem that showed Tems was not going to allow herself be pigeonholed into Afropop obsession with club hits or the never ending rut of love songs and break up songs that Nigerian female pop stars tend to find themselves trapped in. Willing to experiment with new ideas, unafraid of chasing the unconventional hit and particular about her brand, Tems has seen her profile rise significantly and her brand as an anti-pop star gain momentum. This collaboration with Khalid who has a history of churning out excellent pop ballads duet with female pop stars (his songs with Normani, Empress Of and Billie Eilish all became monster hits) will introduce Tems into the notoriously hard to crack American pop music audience and hopefully signal the beginning of her cross over.
