Damilola Mike Bamiloye is furthering the family ministry with ‘Abbatoir’

Who would have thought that the next big show runner on Youtube would be Damilola Mike Bamiloye, son of veteran filmmaker and head evangelist of the religious media company Mount Zion Ministries that dominated the gospel movie industry in the 90’s and terrorized children with its overt depictions of the damnation that awaited sinners. The older Bamiloye has mellowed out in the intervening years and handed over his flourishing gospel ministry to his sons, with Damilola Mike Bamiloye leading the advancement of Mount Zion ministries into the digital age.

Damilola Mike Bamiloye has been very busy over the last few years, and especially the last few months, producing direct to streaming gospel themed projects that seem to have found an enduring niche among young millennials, nostalgic for the overt imagery of classic Mount Zion projects with contemporary storylines that reflect their current realities like social media and technology. The younger Bamiloye has been so successful at translating this zeitgeist that “The Train: The Journey of Faith“, a biographical epic movie chronicling his father Mike Bamiloye’s early life became an instant hit, crossing over 1million views on YouTube in 10 days.

Bamiloye has figured out that serialized web shows are the new frontier to conquer in media and is trying his hand out at a new webseries called  “Abbatoir”. Appropriately themed with lots of religious metaphors and iconography and an unapologetically direct moral message, cut with humour, the Mount Zion group might have another runaway success on their hands. Here are the first two episodes.
