On Sunday, 10 August, some youth corp members at Kaiama camp, Bayelsa State, claimed that they were ordered to pack faeces (human waste), in the absence of toilets in some of the hostels.

An anonymous youth corps member who reported the incident on ‘Kopastales said the hostels which were affected with the no-toilet issue were hostels’ E, F, G and H.

The corps member said, “The army commanders in Kaiama camp Bayelsa state won’t allow us 2 enjoy our sleep. They just woke us up at dusk to start packing faeces which we the corpers & the soldiers defecated.”

Another corp member who also spoke in anonymity said, “I know we agreed to obey the clarion call, but that is not why we should be used as packers of Human waste. Youth corps members don’t go to the press but as for me the press must hear this furtive attitude.”

In a similar vein, earlier this year, during the Batch A orientation camp, some Benue youth corps members were allegedly ordered by soldiers to pack human waste with their mouths.

The NYSC 2014 Batch B orientation camp is divided into two streams, and camp opened for the first stream on 5 August and will close on 26 August.
