D’banj and Seyitan reportedly find common ground in rape saga

D'banj and Seyitan

There is always a huge interest garnered towards rape accusations, both for the accused and the accuser. While these cases are taken extremely seriously, it is imperative to note that the aftermath of such accusations if proven for both right and left parties will go as far as affecting how both parties are perceived to the public eye.

One of these cases of rape accusations that shook social media a few months back is the rape accusation that was targeted towards popular singer, Oladapo Oyebanji (D’banj) by style influencer, Seyitan Babatayo.

In a recent development, the case has been reportedly withdrawn by Seyitan Babatayo after a press statement by Stand To End Rape Initiative (STER) shared the details that led to this point.

It was back in June when Seyitan Babatayo accused D’banj of rape following other rape accusations on social media by other ladies, all of which went cold with little or no investigation or media attention. However, with Seyitan and D’banj, a lot of attention was created around this story as many people expressed a common interest – finding justice.

The case progressed to the point where it was reported that Seyitan was kidnapped by D’banj and made to recant some of her social media posts where she openly accused him of the heinous crime. With this case came a few people of interest and a few rape apologists and a host of other characters who wanted to air their view on the matter.

The feminist movement was one key character that many Nigerians pointed out had a huge interest in this case. For many, their goal was to help Seyitan get justice, with several hashtags that spurred a momentum on Twitter.

However, in a huge turn of events, the case has been reportedly withdrawn by Seyitan trough the STER initiative that many Nigerians have flagged as the ‘feminist coven’.

The statement released, however, does not exonerate the singer, and neither did it place Seyitan as a liar. According to the STER initiative, the decision to withdraw the case was after Seyitan revealed to them she has reached a non-monetary agreement with the singer.

Nigerians had a lot to say about this development as many people have taken sides on the updates. Some users praise D’banj and bashed Seyitan, as others did the opposite while thanking every other person involved in the case.
