BREAKING: House of Reps back state police

The House of Representatives on Tuesday backed the establishment of state police in all the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

The lawmakers gave their approval in a bill seeking to alter Section 214 of the constitution to provide for establishment of state and community police in the country which passed second reading in the House.

The Bill also seeks to replace the word “force” with “service” in its nomenclature.

Sponsor of the bill, Dada Awoyele said there was an urgent need for the establishment of state police due to rate of insecurity in the country.

He stated further that the current Police model is too far from the people.
