President Muhammadu Buhari arrived Turkey late yesterday where he will be participating in the D-8 Summit scheduled to hold on Friday.

Among his entourage is the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Hameed Ali, which hints that one of the topics of discussion will be the recent rise in the illegal importation of firepower from Turkey into Nigerian shores.

In September alone, over 2,000 pump action rifles were seized while being smuggled into Nigerian from Turkey.

However, President Buhari’s trip did not stop the Federal Executive Council meeting from holding yesterday.

In fact, a lot of headway was made as the council approved the sum of N236 million for the completion of Sabke Irrigation Dam in Katsina state.

According to the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, the contract for the dam had been awarded since 1997.

Although the contract had been abandoned, the Minister said this administration was going to complete it.

Remember yesterday some state governors requested that the federal government released the 50 percent balance of the Paris Club refund, after President Buhari scolded them for owing workers salaries.

Well, they’re reiterating their request, saying they are “not begging for money” as it is their “entitlement.”

Back at the Aso Villa, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo held a meeting with Ibe Kachikwu, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, and Maikanti Baru, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Although one would expect the meeting would be about the NNPC contract scam alleged in Kachikwu’s leaked petition to the president, Kachikwu told journalists that they, instead, discussed issues around oil fields as well as the opening of escrow accounts and cash call.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s son Aminu has been released by a Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos hours after he was remanded.

The judge had earlier ruled that Aminu should be remanded in a cell for disobeying an order of the court.
