1. Non-payment of Super Falcons’ allowances

The victorious Super Falcons during the week protested the non-payment of their allowances and bonuses by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The players seized the AWCON trophy and vowed not to vacate their hotel rooms until they are paid.

Sensing that they were not being taken serious, the players took their protest to the gate of the National Assembly and were addressed by he Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari who promised that their outstanding allowances will be paid within 48 hours.

The Federal Government on Friday later released some money to the NFF to pay the victorious players.

2. Zahra Buhari’s wedding

Zahra Buhari, daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari got married on Friday to Ahmed Indimi, son of billionaire, Mohammed Indimi.

The wedding was attended by top politicians and business moguls including, Aliko Dangote, Bola Tinubu, Femi Otedola, Atiku Abubakar among others.

She had her bridal shower earlier before the wedding.

3. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal’s alleged fraud

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal has been indicted in an alleged fraud involving IDPs in the North East.

One of the companies who were given contracts in the North East was alleged to be owned by Lawal.

During plenary, the Senate had recommended his resignation and prosecution.

But Lawal in his response said the Senate was talking balderdash.

He insisted that he had already resigned as a director of the company after his appointment and would not resign his position as SGF.

The Presidency has however said President Muhammadu Buhari would investigate the allegation levelled against Lawal and take appropriate actions.

4. Senate rejects Magu’s nomination

The Senate rejected the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The upper chamber said the rejection was due to a “security report”.

The Senate has however said it may still consider Magu if President Muhammadu Buhari gives a good explanation on why it should do so.

5. Unfreezing Fayose’s account

The Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti ordered the unfreezing of the accounts of Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose domiciled in Zenith Bank.

In his usual dramatic style, the governor stormed a branch of the bank two days later to withdraw some money.

6. Wike caught on tape

A telephone conversation allegedly made by Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike with some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), plotting to rig the recently concluded legislative rerun in the state was leaked.

He was heard threatening to collect his money back from an INEC official who had refused to continue with the plan and also promised to kill the official.

But the Rivers state government claimed the source of the audio used a voice changer technology.

7. Crude oil discovered in Borno

The federal government said it has discovered crude oil in Borno.

8. Amina Mohammed UN appointment

Nigeria’s Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed has been confirmed as the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

New UN Secretary-General António Guterres, made the announcement on Thursday through his spokesman, Mr Stephane Dujarric.

President Muhammadu Buhari in his reaction said Nigeria has been honoured by her appointment.

9. African leaders meet Yahya Jammeh

President Muhammadu Buhari, outgoing president of Ghana, John Mahama and President Ellen Sirleaf of Liberia met with Ganbian President, Yahya Jammeh to prevail on him to relinquish power.

Jammeh has refused to step down after losing his reelection bid.

The Gambian Bar Association also alleged that President Yahya Jammeh was planning to use Nigerian lawyers to remain in office after losing the Presidential election.

10. Senate swears in Rivers lawmakers, adjourn plenary

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday adjourned plenary till January 10, 2017.

The Senate also swore in the newly elected senators from Rivers, Magnus Abe, George Sekibo and Osinakachukwu Ideozu.
