Nobody warned us that Day 46 in the Big Brother House was going to be all about celebrations.

The housemates were generally in a festive mood as not only is it Tboss’ birthday but also Efe and Marvis #BBWedding ceremony. So, it was food and plenty of it, drinks, new clothes and role play (the wedding is the week’s task and their 100% wager was tied to its success).

Starting with Tboss, Biggie dropped her a surprise birthday cake and a bottle of bubbly in the store. But the biggest surprise Biggie had for the birthday lady was a video message from former housemate and her romantic partner, Miyonse. Seeing him on their screen was a pleasant surprise for all the housemates, really. They moved on to cut the birthday cake while Bally gave the toast to the celebrant.

Upon receiving instructions to proceed to wedding ceremony preparations, the housemates immediately got to work. They had only four hours to prepare all the food they had planned and Payporte had delivered all the supplies they would need in an array of shopping bags. All hands were on deck to get the job done, even the guys came round to cutting carrots and dicing onions. They had been informed that they would be receiving guests at the ceremony so they had to perfect their plans.

The time we all waited for came. The traditional engagement ceremony between Efe and Marvis. It was everything a proper Nigerian traditional wedding could be and more. Sponsors, Heritage Bank delivered top notch traditional attires to the housemates and each of them, especially the bride and groom were gaily dressed for the beautiful event. After going through the inter-family talks that characterise traditional weddings, the bride accepted her groom and the couple kissed. The housemates played their script to near perfection, although we later found out from Efe in his dairy room session that the kiss he shared with Marvis had nothing to do with acting.

The housemates got to evaluate their performances in the Diary Room session with Biggie. He called them in in pairs and they all spoke on how satisfied they felt with what they had done and for most of them, the task affected them on a much deeper level. They obviously could relate to it and the couple even put Biggie in suspense when he asked if we should expect the real version of today’s task in the near future. Bassey was pumped about the fact that the engagement ceremony brought different Nigerian cultures together. He referred to it as “a historic traditional engagement”.

Between the engagement ceremony and the reception, the housemates got to catch their breaths and prepare for the final phase of the party.

Frankly, the reception party was not everything we had hoped it will be. Housemates were not properly dressed for the event, things went too fast mostly because it started late and generally, it could have been a lot better. Biggie took these observations we had, added a few more and scolded the housemates based on these. From the expressions on their faces, one could tell they were sure of a wager loss. But Biggie pulled the biggest surprise of the day by announcing that they had won their wager and a special reward was to go to one housemate of their choice. They all decided on Tboss and she picked a bottle of wine to share with the other housemates. They all left the wedding venue in excitement that would have been complete if they were allowed to take some food back to the house.

Back at the house, Efe had a deep conversation with Tboss on her seeming inability to stay happy for too long. Her mood swings all day was palpable and considering it’s her birthday, Efe tried to convince her to stay happy.
