Zimbabwe’s military has returned power to the national police on Monday, after staging a blodless coup on November 15 against former President Robert Mugabe.
This was announced in a joint statement by the army and police.
They said the decision was based on the return of “normalcy” following Friday’s swearing-in of President Emmerson Mnanagagwa.
The military said it would “resume its normal duties”.
The police would recommence “its role as stipulated in the constitution,” said Charity Charamba, a top police officer.
Mnanagagwa who was Mugabe’s Vice President took over from him after 37 years.
