‘You have failed us…’ | Northern Elders join train against President Buhari

Northern Elders

There is no doubt that President Muhammadu Buhari, is one of the most talked-about persons in the country. Everyone is always anxious to say one or two remarks about the president either in hailing him or slamming him. While most of his supporters come from the north, this new trend from that part of the country appears to be a congratulatory message to the President for his ‘failures.’

In a recent report, one of the eminent pressure groups in the North, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) took a heavy swipe at the President over the spate of insecurity as well as sundry issues in the region and young people on social media have reacted to it:

According to them, they are disappointed that as it appears, President Buhari is not doing anything about the near-daily killings being reported in the North and some Twitter users shared that the President is being blind towards his own people and Nigeria as a nation.

The controversy that arose from Buhari taking office was also started in this trend, as many reminded the Northerners that a huge number of them voted for him to run the nation. Many stressed that their belief in the President is dying by the day as they pointed out that more trivial issues are now being given attention to than things that matter.

Others shared that the Northern Elders are only coming out now because, somehow, the pain that many other Nigerians have expressed over the years is only now, affecting them.

However, the Presidency has replied to the Elders from the North as they tagged them as ‘Mere Irritants, Featherweight,’ in a statement released by the office. Their reply has also opened up a conversation about how the Presidency may have been abusing its powers to the detriment of Nigerians.

This trend is however, bringing the attention to the Presidency to the fact that Nigerians across regional divides feel enough is yet to done to better the lives of Nigerians as people and the call is for the government at the federal level to do better in securing the lives of Nigerians across the federation.
