Maybe next time, we should just grumble quietly.

The Vice-President of the country, Namadi Sambo yesterday revealed that the much-talked-about reform of the Nigeria Police Force will be costing Nigeria N1.5 trn, and that’s just the budget.

He said this during a meeting of his government’s ]Committee on the Interim Implementation of the Reform of the Nigeria Police at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to Punch, “Sambo said the Federal Government would provide 32 per cent of the total amount, while state and local governments would contribute 28 per cent.

“He said the balance would be provided by the private sector. He added that the FG had already provided its own share of the sum.

“Sambo directed the Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade, (Retd), and the acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, to work with a sub-committee already set up to look at needs in the force. He said this would enable the committee discuss it with governors and other relevant agencies.

Sambo said the needs of each state police command should be harmonised to maintain standard, and  discuss it at the National Economic Council; adding that a meeting should be arranged with the Minister of Communication and the Chairman of Nigeria Communication Commission to discuss the relocation of the frequency used by the police for their communication and locate some CCTV cameras away from pilfering.
