#YNaijaBBNOp-ed: Ozo is Nigeria’s subject of discussion and we are not surprised

As the season of this year’s Big Brother Naija reality TV show comes to an end, it wouldn’t be far fetched to state that the show this year was a master class in human vulnerability. The line of up of housemates this season truly showed Nigerians what it means to be in tune with one’s feelings.

From Laycon to Erica, and even Lucy, the cast of characters this year were not afraid to show their real character in front of millions of spectators; no matter what implications it may have.

But amongst them stands a remarkable individual in his own rights, Ozo. Ozo took persistence to a whole new dimension with his pursuit of love. To say he wore his feelings on his sleeves would be putting it mildly. At no point in time during the show did he fail to show just how far he would go, or just what level of discomfort he is willing to endure for the one he loves. And in this case, the Benue beauty queen; Nengi was on the receiving end of such devout affection.

Things between these two often got so intense that even the audience had to gasp for fresh air watching these two. Ozo pushed for a relationship and Nengi pushed him away, continually letting him know that she wasn’t interested. This did not deter the lover boy as he often found his way back to a woman who couldn’t have been more clearer about her disinterest.

But this assessment would only be one side of the story if we are being honest. Nengi also did everything in her power to keep Ozo close. She too would clamour for his attention so desperately that one would be left scratching their heads as to what she truly wants.

Anytime Ozo decided to let it go, and detach himself from her, her tears would make quick work of bringing him back, perhaps inspiring him not to give up on his chase. It happened twice and both times, Nengi confronted Ozo about him avoiding her, and both times she managed to sway Ozo back into her life.

The story was so convoluted that it’s safe to assume that someone who earlier in the show had a lot of publicity, a fast growing fan base and a heap of admirers, some of which referred to him as the ultimate spec, lost his popularity, owing to this unhealthy obsession.

In our opinion, his love for Nengi may have cost him the game, and it’s quite disappointing to say the least, considering how much buzz he generated on premier night.

With all these, some people still find it difficult to admit that Ozo may have shot himself on the leg with Nengi. With less than 24 hours since Ozo was evicted, a number of celebrities have given their take on his stint with Nengi in the house. Former BBN contestant, Uti, celebrity bar man, Cubana Chiefpriest, actress Queen Nwokoye, and actor Jidekene have all come out to commend Ozo for his actions in the house.

Kate Henshaw gave a side note on the matter, speaking on the side of self worth, and fellow BBN contestant Ka3na suggested that Ozo was a dum dum.

The subject of Ozo has been heavily debated for over two weeks now and only intensified with his eviction. Seems like everyone has something to say, with some condemning him and others sympathising with him. We just hope we can hear more from the man himself, especially since he must have read and heard all the things being said about him, and may have realised by now that the love which wasn’t reciprocated may have caused him  ₦85 million.
