Who doesn’t love a good beef? Especially one that is played out in full public glare.

When the missiles are hurled back and forth and fresh revelations are brought to light, we will always be there at the end of it all to pick up the pieces left behind.

We present the top 10 beefs of 2015. From bottom to top.

  1. Charles Soludo vs Peter Obi

Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and former governor of Anambra, Peter Obi have never really been best of friends, not since Obi defeated Soludo on his way to earning a second term as governor of Anambra state. Soludo hasn’t quite forgiven him this perceived slight and seizes every moment to detail what a terrible governor Peter Obi was. In his famous lengthy epistle dispatched early this year, Soludo accused Peter Obi of not being able to write and giving bad economic advice to President Goodluck Jonathan. Obi on his part dismissed Soludo as a man haunted by memories of his past.

  1. Drake vs Meek Mill

Former tight buddies, the Drake vs Meek Mill implosion started when Mill in a series of tweets, accused Drake of ghost writing his lyrics. Drake clapped back with a response, a lukewarm song titled Charged up. It didn’t have the expected effect so he came up with Back to back a stronger reply that blew Meek Mill out of the water and was nominated for a Grammy award later in the year. Meek Mill’s anticipated reply, Wanna know arrived with a fizzle impressing no one anywhere. Mill may have won the girl but Drake is winning the lyrical battle.

  1. Soundcity vs. Psquare

This one started when one half of pop duo Psquare, Peter Okoye made it known via Twitter that music and lifestyle station Soundcity had stopped playing their music videos. Soundcity replied in a statement that they only did so because Psquare insisted the music station pay a certain amount before performing at their year end concert. Jude Okoye, manager of the twin brothers took it up from there, insisting that Soundcity has not been supportive of the Psquare band. In the end both parties agreed not to work with the other.

  1. Peter Obi vs Willie Obiano

Governor Willie Obiano was Mr Peter Obi’s hand-picked successor. No one expected their relationship to go south so soon after. Obiano’s aides have cited undue interference and a false claim of handing over 75billion Naira on Peter Obi’s part. Peter Obi through his media aide has insisted he left every kobo of the quoted 75 billion Naira in cash and investment. Who is lying? Who isn’t?

  1. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie vs. Elnathan John

Writers spats are not usually newsworthy because the stakes are so low but when the most important writer of her generation gives an interview that is essentially a brutal take down of an upcoming colleague, then the world must take note. And so it was that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie finally decided to respond to Elnathan John’s 2 year old satirical piece which he titled, The consequences of loving Ngozi. Poised, calm and collected, Adichie systematically put Mr John in his place and accused him of being ‘’falsely extra-nice and borderline sycophantic.’’

  1. PDP vs APC

Ever since the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) finally got a worthy rival in form of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the battle between the two sides for ultimate control of Nigeria’s political system has been epic. Manifesting through various spokespersons, electoral candidates, party chairmen and even card humble carrying members, the PDP vs. APC beef is huge and isn’t about to go away anytime soon.

  1. Lai Mohammed vs Olisa Metuh

The Battle Royale between the minister for Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed and the national publicity secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh was intensified this year when Mohammed while still serving as national publicity secretary of the APC, filed a 500million Naira libel lawsuit against Metuh for alleging that the minister engaged in corrupt practices in two south west states. This was after Mohammed had generously offered to school Metuh on how to perform his role in an opposition capacity following PDP’s defeat at the polls.

  1. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi vs Nyesom Wike

Governor of Rivers state Nyesom Wike and Transport minister Rotimi Amaechi used to be partners in crime, till they weren’t anymore. Wike pitched his tent with Goodluck Jonathan, and his wife Patience while Amaechi left to join the APC. Both battled over everything from Wike’s election bid to Jonathan’s re-election bid and Amaechi’s ministerial appointment. Both are still battling.

  1. Charles Soludo vs. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala

Former fast buddies during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, the relationship between these two disintegrated publicly when in the build up to the elections this year, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, former governor of the Central Bank wrote a strongly worded article scoring the Jonathan administration a dismal F on its management of the economy. The former Coordinating Minister of the Economy replied swiftly, accusing Soludo of being economic with facts, logic and honor. Soludo moved in for the kill with his next write up, accusing the former CME of manipulating national economic statics and hustling to save her job at PDP and TAN rallies. Okonjo Iweala wisely kept mum after this.

  1. Adams Oshiomhole vs Ngozi Okonjo Iweala

If you are listening to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, the sins of former Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala are right up there with the disgraced former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki and she deserves to be tried alongside Dasuki and former petroleum minister Diezani Alison Madueke for mismanaging the Economy and frittering away billions of Naira. If you are listening to the former CME, Oshiomhole’s grouse with her stems from her refusal to approve a dodgy World Bank loan he tried to access.
