If yesterday’s attempt to ‘steal’ his government didn’t wake Buhari from the ‘dead’, what else will?

You may have heard that a certain President – not Buhari nor Osinbajo – almost entered the Villa yesterday.

Despite the attempt by a number of lawmakers to move Zuma to allow for a Bukola Saraki Acting Presidency, the Senate President held back and shut it down.

“I simply want to bring to the attention of this chamber and all Nigerians and to ask the question, the acting president is the person who is at the head of government now, but we have a serious problem in Nigeria today. We have nobody in Nigeria who is at the head of the government”, said the Senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe. He was seconded by Kabiru Marafa of Zamfara Central.

If this were a football match, President Buhari’s already struggling administration just got its yellow card from a Senate that has been itching to prove just how powerful the legislative arm of government is – and now, can be. In a matter of minutes.

Five minutes, we hear this took, before Senator Bukola Saraki shut it down on grounds that lawyers will refer to as “technicality”. He said the point was raised under an order that made it void ab initio in view of matters being discussed.

But the Senate President did not fail to express just how “eloquently” Abaribe‘s point was made. So if this were about food and Saraki was speaking to his chef, what he’d have asked for was the salt shaker and not for the whole bowl of party Jollof to be thrown out. Or more appropriately, “let it sit a few more minutes before you serve it”, he’d have said to the chef who didn’t let the freshly sliced onions steam a little under the casserole lid before attempting to dish the rice.

We at the Presidential Blog are tempted to agree with our colleagues who have separately come to the conclusion that Dr Bukola Saraki has fantasised about the possibility of dropping the “Senate” in his title a little more than anyone who truly supports the Buhari administration should.

Last week, Governor Ayodele Fayose literally swore to the gods that President Buhari is currently hanging on to life by artificial support. Usually, that kind of talk, we’d have dismissed as typical “FayoRambo” but we already told you why we believe whatever he says on this issue.

With this new development, we have been given even one more reason to feel certain that President Buhari may actually be sicker that we thought.

Because if a Senator from Abia came this close to toppling a former General’s administration and we aren’t still feeling any pulse… sigh.

If this were a Nollywood movie, this will be the scene where the Doctor tells Aisha Buhari‘s character that he “tried everything he could but only God gives and takes lives.”

And we all know what that means.
