#WorldCup Roundup: Januzaj’s magical goal decides Group H winner in underwhelming game

Januzaj

The game between England and Belgium was billed as the most anticipated and important group stage game by most football fans when the World Cup fixtures were announced. It was meant to be an array of attacking display – Romelu Lukaku versus Harry Kane. However, thanks to early qualification, both managers decided to field a weakened side, much to the disappointment of many football fans – I was gutted.

The game was drab! I frankly have nothing to report, asides Adnan Januzaj magical goal in the 51st minute. FIFA needs to be smarter in curbing this nonsense. I am outraged by England and Gareth Southgate’s decision and I feel they are suffering from over bloated confidence. 6-1 against Panama is not an impressive result for England. What Southgate needs to take into cognisance is that the second team he fielded against Belgium today is not that different in quality compared to England’s first team. Yet they lost to a well weakened Belgium side.

Tunisia, however, left the World Cup on a high by defeating Panama 2-1, after coming from a goal down to defeat the Panamanians thanks to Syam Youssef and Wahbi Khazri.

England will face Colombia and Belgium will face Japan. English fans will be hoping that Gareth Southgate’s gamble pays off and they make the Semi-Finals.
