The winners and losers in Gov. Fayose and Aisha Buhari’s ‘fight’

President Muhammadu Buhari‘s wife, Aisha on Thursday, paid a working visit to the United States of America where she had an interview at the Voice of America and also appeared as a special guest at the 25th Anniversary of Zumunta Association.

Her visit would ordinarily have been less eventful for Nigerians but for the claims made by the Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose in June.

Fayose had tied the wife of the President to a fraud case for which congressman William Jefferson was jailed in America- the Haliburton scandal.

Fayose dared Aisha to step foot on US soil if she was sure she would not be arrested by the authorities.

Even though it took a whole 2 months, it’s safe to say Aisha Buhari just proved Fayose wrong with her visit.

Here are the winners and losers...

Starting from the losers:

Ayodele Fayose

The governor is the obvious loser in the entire debacle quite obviously. With the safe flight and arrival of the First Lady in the US, any water that Fayose’s allegations of fraud against her holds dried up.

Fayose had been given the chance to apologize for his baseless accusations against Aisha or be slammed with a law suit, the governor, true to type however, blatantly discarded any chance of apology.

He stood by his claims and shouted them out loud for the whole world to hear.

Now he has a lawsuit to defend!

‘Lere Olayinka

Olayinka is governor Fayose’s media aide. While it would have been easy to lump ‘Lere into the ‘Fayose Loser Group’, the aide made sure that he earned a solitary spot in the loser’s corner with his terrible mathematics.

During the heat of the debacle, after Aisha Buhari has called Fayose a ‘mad dog’, ‘Lere had taken to his Twitter page in an attempt to link a non-existent web of child-marriage conspiracy with the wife of the President. His knowledge of mathematics failed him woefully in this attempt.

Now the winners…

Aisha Buhari

Even though the wife of the president lost her cool at the start of the saga with her far from respectable outburst on Twitter, she still managed to emerge victorious by a far mile.

Apparently tutored by her media aides, the First Lady had proceeded to delete the insulting tweets and silently moved on with her business.

She however did tackle Fayose in a more civil way – with a lawsuit!

To ice her cake of victory, she took a trip to the United States which Fayose had dared her to go- and she had a damn good reason to go.

APC

As expected, the All Progressives Congress leaped to defend honour of the wife of the President as soon as Fayose’s rancor-making statement hit the media.

The party insisted that Fayose was speaking from a place where facts did not exist- more like la-la land.

The party couldn’t be any more right with Aisha’s visit to the US as it boldly splashed pictures of her arrival and stay in the foreign country across it’s social media stations.

Ibrahim Lamorde

The only reason Lamorde came into play in this drama is because he headed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at a time when an impostor using Aisha Buhari’s name for fraud was discovered.

The former chairman of the EFCC came to the rescue of the First Lady explaining to Fayose and all who cared to listen that the Aisha Buhari mentioned in the Haliburton scandal was not the wife of the President.

Fayose would not relent in his mud slinging and Lamorde slunk back into the shadows from whence he emerged to wash the stains off Aisha’s garment.

Lamorde was right after all.
