The Wedding Party premiere, Star Trek finale, and more… Everything is happening this weekend

Last weekend, art enthusiasts and literature lovers had their time to bond, feast and remind us all that the select crowd who value these genres still very much exist in spite of the . It goes without saying that the cultural scene in Nigeria buzzed this past week and the memories still linger around everyone who participated.

This week though, the tables are turned. For the ones who get turned-on by cinema and film, this weekend may just be the best of your year yet.

Topping the list is the most anticipated wedding party this season – the grand premiere of the The Wedding Party holds today at the Eko Hotel and Suites. The movie, directed by Kemi Adetiba made its first outing at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September, where it was one of the eight Nigerian films that were showcased at the festival as part of the spotlight on Lagos and its fast-growing film industry.

The Wedding Party is not just your typical movie, this one holds a lot of promise. The testimonies of the few who were lucky to attend the private viewing held weeks back, and of course, the TIFF hype are what we hold on to. If you can’t trust us on those, then take another glance at the cast list. The line-up is brilliant and this review further proves that.

’76 is the most significant figure on Nigeria’s social space right now. Cliche? Yes! The deal is this though, Izu Ojukwu’s movie was at TIFF, had its own premiere in Lagos and is now out in the cinemas. We’ve seen the movie, lead actress, Rita Dominic has received international accolades for her performance and the movie is already poised to go to even greater places. More importantly, everyone of us can work our weekend schedule around it. ’76 opened at the cinemas in Lagos and Abuja yesterday and the turnout has been remarkable, but that doesn’t come as a surprise.

We advise that you save your energy for the final wrap-up of this Saturday’s outing. Is it outdated to say “gettin’ jiggy with it”? Well, that explains what the mood will be tonight at the Star Music Trek finale holding at Eagle Club, Surulere.

All your favourite live artistes, Tiwa Savage, Flavour, Olamide, MI, D’banj, 2baba, FalztheBahdGuy, Burna Boy will be on stage. It’s a harvest of all the best from the various genres and not the type to miss. Also, we’ll like you to think of Star Trek as your rehearsal for what is to come in December. OLIC III, Wizkid’s Homecoming, Rhythm Unplugged, Lagos Countdown and loads more. We pray that we all will survive this avalanche of turn-up.

But first, let’s get through this weekend; so, get out and go!
