We did not order Tambuwal’s arrest – NSA, Police deny reports

by Akan Ido

Contrary to widespread reports that Nigeria’s top security echelon ordered the arrest of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal after the Assembly complex fracas, the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) has denied giving any such directive.

In a statement released today by the Director of Special Duties in the Office of National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Bello Fadile, the reports were described as untrue and total falsehood.

Tambuwal was said to have been declared wanted after NSA, Sambo Dasuki and the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba met with Vice President, Namadi Sambo at the Presidential Villa earlier in the week.

According to Fadile: “It is not only untrue and mere fabricated reports that the NSA met with the VP and ordered the arrest of Hon. Tambuwal. The fact is that the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki has been outside the country since Wednesday on pressing national security issues.

“To the best of our knowledge there is no any order for the arrest of Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of the House of Representatives.

“We therefore urge the media to always cross-check their stories before going to the press.”

Meanwhile the Spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Emmanuel Ojukwu has also denied the report for any such order of arrest.

He, however, added that: “It lies with the investigators to determine who should be quizzed and/or prosecuted, as the case may be for criminal acts.”
