Announced on Tuesday that Burna Boy will feature on Sia’s Hey Boy remix, off her upcoming eight studio album Music – Songs From and Inspired by the Motion Picture to arrive February 12, 2021, the internet went agog. The album is a tie-in to her film debut of the same name, which the Australian pop star wrote and directed herself.
Hey Boy as a single was released last year November, a fun, strutting pop song that blows up with Sia’s outsize vocals. But the remix with Burna Boy is just as fun and kinetic, with lyrics that tests the limits of romantic flirtation. And the video is an acid trip into a riotous, animated world.
It’s interesting to point out the subtle variance in the animated designs of Sia and Burna Boy. While Sia is adequately fleshed out as a human female, Burna Boy looks like a Scooby Doo replica. This becomes clear on close inspection on the song’s cover art. But this is a non-issue as some characters in the video also have animal-like features. It’s still a curious thing however.
