“If you vote, you will die”, “I erect statues for our unborn children” | Read our Top 10 quotes from last week

Maybe you thought Nnamdi Kanu (and his ragtag army, now proscribed as terrorists) were kidding when the former first declared that Anambra elections will only hold subject to Nigeria giving him a date for referendum by October 1st, 2017. Unfortunately, instead of restructuring the country on his say-so, the Federal Government raided Kanu’s house and he has not been seen or heard from since then.

But his group, IPOB, maintains that the state’s governorship elections scheduled for November 18 will not hold. In fact, they’ve  now threatened Anambra citizens:

If you vote you will die. Don’t go out, stay in your house. If you vote on November 18, you will die. We are not running around for the zoo.

There will be no election. We will not participate, we will not vote. Nothing concerns us with any election. We are formidable.

That’s not all, they also gave the FG an ultimatum.

This can’t end well.

At the unveiling of his second statue in his statuary, Governor Rochas Okoroacha said:

“I erect statues to immortalise people so that children yet unborn can know about them. History is dying in Africa, we must keep it alive,”

“In the next 100 years, most of us would not be alive but this will stand for children to see. If leaders are not immortalised, there will be no history for children.”

Cart before the horse, no? Will children be born if you keep owing workers salaries so?

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on her own part was ecstatic to have a statue in Imo state, she said it will inspire African women.

“We can achieve our dreams. We can stand tall among the many women of the world in providing the kind of exemplary leadership that will lift us up to stand, as I stand to represent women.”

Darrhhling, we were inspired before the statue.

Outspoken human rights advocate, Femi Falana tackled Governor Fayose during a panel discussion at the  Lagos Book and Arts Festival yesterday.

“We have a Trump in Ekiti. Somebody is going out there to eat boli with the people. Somebody who says [he believes] in stomach infrastructure, stealing all the money but giving people just some tokenism and he is being celebrated.”

Also trading insults last week were Donald Trump and Kim Jong-Un, the two men with the capability to flip a switch and bring an end to this world as we know it.

Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me “old,” when I would NEVER call him “short and fat?” Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend – and maybe someday that will happen!

Scary.

Lupita Nyong’o, the actress who shot to Hollywood stardom for her role in Twelve Years A Slave had it out with a UK Magazine for cutting off her hair to fit “eurocentric notion” of good hair.

I am disappointed that @graziauk invited me to be on their cover and then edited out and smoothed my hair to fit their notion of what beautiful hair looks like.

Tell it, sis.

Also in the calling out business, BBOG activist Oby Ezekwesili, wrote a stinging thread to Mr President for doing nothing about the deaths of Nigerians abroad.

She even had to attach a guide on how a president should react when a Nigerian citizen’s life is lost.

Shocking that you personally have not acknowledged that 26 of the Citizens that you are their President drowned in the Mediterranean Sea and the whole world is talking about it. This is NOT LEADERSHIP, Sir. .

Finally, someone got 2baba mad enough to clap back. Of course, it was the former Plantashun Boiz member, Blackface and his partner in crime, Eedris.

Wike and Amaechi took their drama up a notch by coming for each other’s lives in Port Harcourt, Rivers state yesterday. It’s unclear who threw down the gauntlet first as their statements are a confusing mishmish of he said, they said.

“Suddenly, gun-toting security men attached to Wike’s convoy, surrounded the minister’s car, threatening to shoot him.”

What a week.
