Is the “VIO ban” part of Governor Ambode’s Mega City plan or a quick PR stunt?

by Titilayo Ade-Ogbo

Let’s face it, the Lagos State government has not had it easy in the past few months. This year alone, the government has been accused of oppressing the people of Otodo Gbame by going against a pending court order to forcefully evacuate the settlers in the area, of awarding a contract to a white woman, to the disadvantage of qualified Nigerians all over and also of trying to hide the details of the State’s spending from citizens.

All the while, the Lagos State government has maintained the narrative that it is trying to transform Lagos into a Mega City, the likes of what we see in developed countries all over the world. Despite the fact that residents are quite on board with the Mega City plan that promises to change the face of the country’s economic capital, many of the moves that have been made towards achieving the aim.

Now that the government has banned the VIO off Lagos roads allegedly in order to compel them to get some more technological training that will help them do better and at the same time pleasing Lagos road users by getting what they consider to be thorns in their flesh off, does this mean that they have finally got one right?
