Vice President Mike Pence rejects reports that he plans to run for President in 2020

Vice President Mike Pence blasted a New York Times report that said he is quietly positioning himself to run for President in 2020, Sunday as “disgraceful and offensive”.

Pence said in a statement on Sunday, “Today’s article in the New York Times is disgraceful and offensive to me, my family, and our entire team, the allegations in this article are categorically false and represent just the latest attempt by the media to divide this Administration”.

He also said; “Whatever fake news may come our way, my entire team will continue to focus all our efforts to advance the president’s agenda and see him re-elected in 2020. Any suggestion otherwise is both laughable and absurd”.

The Times article said following the chaos in the White House since they assumed office, Pence was working to build a power base and his office was intimating to party donors that he had plans to run if Trump was not willing to seek re-election.

“Mr. Pence has been the pacesetter, though it is customary for vice presidents to keep a full political calendar, he has gone a step further, creating an independent power base, cementing his status as Mr. Trump’s heir apparent and promoting himself as the main conduit between the Republican donor class and the administration”, the report said.

Pence reaffirmed his love and loyalty to the President in the statement, “The American people know that I could not be more honored to be working side by side with a president who is making America great again”.

On ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said that there was “zero concern” about Pence running a shadow campaign.

“That is complete fiction, that is a complete fabrication, she said. And I know that his advisers who had comments attributed to them have pushed back strongly, as has the vice president. And as am I right now unequivocally”.
