Uhuru Kenyatta wins Kenyan presidential rerun

Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta has won the presidential election re-run in the country.

Official results on Monday showed that Kenyatta won 98.2 percent of the votes cast.

Kenyatta won 7,483,895 votes compared to 73,228 for his closest rival Raila Odinga, who had boycotted the vote.

The election was marked by a low turnout with many voters not showing up to cast their ballots.

According to the IEBC, 38.84 percent of the registered voters turned up to cast their ballot – that is 7.6 million of the 19.6 million registered voters.

Supreme Court overturned Kenyatta’s victory in August 8 polls over widespread irregularities and mismanagement by the IEBC.
