Trump trolls Senators Jeff Flake and Bob Corker over retirement announcements

President Trump has denigrated the decisions of GOP Sens. Jeff Flake and Bob Corker not to seek reelection at the end of Congress. Trump claimed the duo opted to drop out because they couldn’t sustain an endorsement from him.

Trump and both Senators were lately embroiled in war of words, with Flake accusing the president of not laying a good example for children, while Bob Corker doubled down on his description of the White House as an “adult day care center”, and also accused Trump of debasing the Republican party and the nation at large.

“The reason Flake and Corker dropped out of the Senate race is very simple, they had zero chance of being elected. Now act so hurt & wounded!”, Trump tweeted.

Though Flake, a vocal critic of Trump during and after the campaign, he still enjoyed a strong Republican base with a good conservative vote. However, he saw his popularity plummet with his repeated attacks on Trump and thus faced a stiff primary challenge, believed to be orchestrated by Trump and erstwhile White House Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon.

Unlike Flake, Bob Corker was a former Trump ally who endorsed Trump during the electioneering campaign but has since retracted his support few months after his assumption to the White House, due to his disappointment with the president’s style of leadership.
