Trump mocked for wrongly addressing Spanish Prime Minister as ‘President’

US President Donald Trump has been mocked for addressing Spain’s Leader wrongly.

During the Joint press conference with the Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy in the Rose Garden at the White House on Tuesday, President Donald Trump repeatedly called the prime minister “president”.

Trump called the PM “president” at least three times during their press conference and his introductory remarks.

Also Pointing at Rajoy, the US President asked the present reporters if there was a question for “the president,” but, the reporter who asked the next question addressed Rajoy as “prime minister.”

Trump’s confusion likely stems from Rajoy’s official title – “president of the government”, though it is commonly accepted that the head of Spain’s government is known as “prime minister.”

The White House equally called Rajoy Spain’s president in a tweet before the press conference

However, the statement has generated wide mockery and trolling from the public especially on Twitter, with one person commenting, ‘You’d think he’d get the basics right’.

A Twitter user, ‘April’ wrote: ‘It’s ridiculous that a man who places so much importance on titles and hierarchy can’t remember the titles of others in power.’

Another user said: ‘Trump just called Spanish PM ‘Mr. President’ throughout the press conference. Sad thing is, that’s totally unsurprising and expected.’
