Many sources have reported a move by the White House to push a deal on Capitol Hill to head off a government shutdown that would lift strict spending caps that has been the bone of contention by Democrats in exchange for money to commence work on Trump’s Mexico border wall.

According to Politico, White House’s director of legislative affairs, Marc Short initiated this move while meeting with top staffers from both parties in the Senate Appropriations Committee earlier on to make a hard sell for the proposal.

Mr Short said the border funding would be used for a “double fence” and stressed that the White House is insisting on a down payment for construction in the current season. He also lobbied for a big budget increase for the Pentagon which is a priority for President Trump.

The government runs out of money after Sept. 30th and might force federal agencies to close until an agreement is reached, but, Democrats have vowed to oppose funding for a border wall.

However, on making a barter with the opposing caucus, the White House is offering Democrats who had blocked the project once, more funding for their own pet projects in return for allowing construction to move ahead on a barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border.
