Police officers carry the gun which shot a 4 year old boy in Detroit

A routine visit to grandpa’s turned sour in Detroit, Michigan in the United States after a young girl accidentally shot her equally young cousin.

The children were playing at the residence when the little girl found the rifle and aimed it at her cousin.

The rifle was loaded and the child shot her relation point blank in the chest leading to his almost instant death.

The Mirror reports:

Detroit police spokesman Sergeant Michael Woody said the youngster pointed the weapon at the four-year-old boy and pulled the trigger, shooting him in the chest.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Tuxedo Street around 4.50pm on Thursday, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The little boy was taken to Henry Ford Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police Captain Rodney Cox said the death appears to be a “tragic accident”.

He told WJBK Fox News: “The 4-year-old found a weapon in the bedroom and shot the other 4-year-old.

“Make sure your weapons are secure, that your children or no one else in the home can get access to the guns.”

Neighbours last night spoke of their shock and paid tribute to the little boy.

Olivia Queensbury told Fox News the child was “fun to be around” and that he “was a good little boy.”

As yet, no one has been arrested in connection with the incident. It is not yet known who is the registered owner of the gun.
