The All Progressives Congress, APC, said on Sunday that it would hold an extraordinary national convention on October 29 in Abuja, to approve amendments to the constitution of the party.
The convention, according to the party, would also adopt its manifesto for the 2015 general elections.
A statement issued in Lagos, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, said that the party’s proposed amendments, when approved, would align its constitution better with the Electoral Act.
The Presidency on Sunday came down hard on Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State over some allegations he made against President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience, on Saturday.
While speaking at the All Progressives Congress mega rally held in Port Harcourt, Amaechi had among other allegations accused Jonathan of not implementing any project in the state, encouraging corruption and meddling in the state’s internal affairs.
But the Presidency, in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, described the allegations as false and baseless vituperations.
President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday joined some top government officials and clergymen to pray for the peace, security and progress of Nigeria in far away Israel.
The President led the delegation to an interdenominational church service with the theme “A day with Jesus for Nigeria in Israel” as part of his two-day pilgrimage to Israel.
The Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, preached the sermon at the service that featured special prayers for the President, his family, other leaders and the country.
Other Nigerian pilgrims joined the President and its entourage for the service.
The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has raised the alarm on activities of some fraudsters, operating fake facebook accounts in his name, and using them to dupe unsuspecting people.
His Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, raised the alarm in a statement issued on Sunday.
He warned members of the public against falling victims of the fraudsters, operating the fake facebook accounts.
Olayinka, who said he was compelled to once again alert the public on activities of the fraudsters, said money was being demanded from people by the fake facebook operators in exchange for government contracts.
Results declared so far from last Saturday’s local government elections in Delta State showed that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has won the 15 of the 16 chairmanship seats declared so far as on Sunday.
The result for Ethiope East chairmanship was declared inconclusive, and rerun elections will be conducted in some polling units before a winner can emerge.
The Labour Party’s candidate and the PDP candidate were running neck to neck with the results upheld so far in Ethiope East, where Great Ogboru, Labour Party chieftain holds sway.
