The Governor of Niger State, Mu’azu Aliyu, has stated that contrary to widespread permutations, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is not dead.

He said the party will come back in 2019 to take what it lost in this year elections.

Mr. Aliyu, who made this declaration Wednesday when the campaign organization of Umar Nasko, Niger State’s PDP governorship candidate, visited him at the government house in Minna, said the PDP will meet at the state and federal levels to correct its mistakes.

President Goodluck Jonathan’s letter to the National Assembly,  rejecting amendments to the 1999 Constitution, which was read on the floor of Senate on Wednesday by Senate President, David Mark, was received with shock by some members, who openly expressed surprise at the reasons why the President vetoed the bill.

Chairman,  Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution (4th Alteration Bill 2015),  Senator Ike Ekweremadu, announced that his members would hold a two-day retreat from Wednesday to Thursday to review the development.

The Senator representing Taraba South at the National Assembly Senator Emmanuel Bwacha called on the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Atahiru Jega to sack the Taraba state Governorship Election Returning Officer and bring another for the run off in the state.

He said the returning officer for the governorship election in the state has fumbled in his responsibility by been bias for cancelling election in Donga local government area without justifiable means.

The Independent National Electoral Commission Wednesday began the issuance of Certificate of Return to candidates who won the National Assembly elections in Edo State.

Those who collected their Certificates of Return were Engr. Clifford Ordia (Edo Central) Matthew Urhoghide (Edo South) Ehiozuwa Johnson (Egor/Ikpoba-Okha) Joseph Edionwele (Esan West/Central/Igueben) Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama (Oredo) Patrick Aisowieren (Orhiomwon/Uhunmwode).

Others absent at the certificate presentation were Francis Alimikhena (Edo North) Peterson Akpatason (Akoko-Edo) Sergius Oguns (Esan North East/Esan South East) Philip Shaibu (Estako) Pally Iriase (Owan) and Omosede Igbinedion (Ovia).

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the April 11 gubernatorial election in Adamawa, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has pledged to contribute to the development of the country. He made the pledge at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Yola on Wednesday. He thanked PDP members for their support toward his gubernatorial ambition.

Whe candidate said he decided to contest the governorship race because he wanted to use his vast experience to develop Adamawa and ensure unity among the diverse cultural and ethnic groups in the state. “We had Adamawa people in mind when we set out to contest the gubernatorial seat. Our aim was to entrench peace, development and progress.
