Determined to stop the recurring cases of fuel tankers in the state, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Monday, announced the setting up of a Committee, comprising of stakeholders to fashion out guidelines aimed at curbing the spates of incessant fuel tanker fires and traffic gridlocks by articulated vehicles in the state.

It will be recalled that Ambode had summoned a stakeholders meeting to look at ways of preventing future occurrence when he visited the scene of last Friday Midnight Idumu-Egbe petroleum tanker explosion where over 70 shops, 34 houses were destroyed by inferno caused by fuel tankers.

Ahead of the election of ‎the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, the member-elect representing Etsako Federal Constituency of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has said the leadership of the All Progressives Congress did not impose the choice of House leadership on the lawmakers.
The immediate past Minority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, had polled 154 out of the 183 votes cast by members who registered for last Saturday’s mock election organised by the party.

The Chairman, Police Service Commission, Mike Okiro, on Monday reacted to the allegation that he defrauded the commission of N275 million and vowed not to succumb to blackmail.

Mr. Okiri alleged that a staff of the commission, Aaron Kaase, of the Press Unit, colluded with a journalist to blackmail him with the allegation to collect N10 million.

Ahead of Tuesday’s inauguration of the new 8th National Assembly, a  Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday rejected a prayer for the disqualification of a member-elect and the immediate past Minority Leader  in the 7th House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, from contesting the position of the Speaker.
The All Progressives Congress, which constitutes the majority in the incoming National Assembly, had, after a mock election it organised on Saturday, nominated ‎Gbajabiamila as its sole candidate for the office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday in Elmau, Germany, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending Boko Haram’s insurgency in the shortest possible time.

Speaking at a meeting with President Francois Hollande of France after his participation in Monday’s G-7 Outreach Programme, President Buhari said Nigeria will welcome greater support and cooperation from France and other friendly nations for its ongoing efforts to overcome Boko Haram and restore full security and normalcy to areas affected by the group’s atrocities.
