“Conceding defeat is not an achievement” || Ex-gov Sylva says Jonathan is not a hero

Former Governor of Bayelsa, Timipre Sylva, is not impressed with all the noise about former President, Goodluck Jonathan, being an hero over his conceding of defeat to new President, Muhammadu Buhari.

While speaking with Vanguard on Saturday, Sylva said Jonathan had no option than to concede defeat after losing the presidential elections.

Sylva said it would have been self destruction for the former President, if he had not taken that line of action.

He said;

“For me, conceding defeat is not an achievement. Let us take a look at the event they tried everything to subvert and thwart. They tried to go to court to stop the announcement of the result. Former Minister, Orubebe, tried to stage a coup during the announcement to allow some paid ex-militants to invade the venue.

“They asked the former Inspector-General of Police to withdraw security from the venue to allow ex-militants invade the venue. When all else failed, what did you expect him to do?

“If the Super Eagles play a football match and were defeated. They now accepted defeat. Is that an achievement? Seriously, if this is the level where Nigeria has descended to, it is a sorry state. We cannot be praising somebody for losing in such manner.

“He (Jonathan) didn’t have any other choice. What would he have done? To kill himself? Any other thing for Jonathan to do in Aso Rock would have been suicide or self destruction. At that point Jonathan also knew it.

“What he should be saying is that at that point, he did not self destruct. So he is now a hero? If one can be a hero so cheaply in Nigeria,to then it is sad. For the APC, what we considered was that there is no need to rub the defeat in. The man is down and we decided to humour him out of office.”

  1. I support ex gov slvia opinion on d ex president as a superior arguement as its an insult to progressive leadership to call goodluck a hero,
    he is no way near such hypocritical comment.
    thank you

  2. I wonderd what should’ve been the option? going to war. So the day shakaurau, the boko haram leader surrenders and accepts defeat, he becomes a hero. Where is the $20b?

    1. You’re talking rubbish.when ojukwu committed atrocities in this country,why didn’t. You crucified him?that’s why igbos will remain slave in Nigeria.

  3. Sylva,don’t know what to say.sylva only have mouth because he have been left off the hook by a kangaroo court.Till thy kingdom come,slyva you will not attain the height Gej attended.

  4. i think you re just a fool for saying bad word against a man God on his own bless in everything he did he his more than a hero may God bless goodluck generation

  5. You are only jealiousy if not with your level you should have known that Jonathan has option but decided to stand by his word which he said that his ambition does not worth the blood of any nigerian,When GOD is with a man he will even turn his misfortune to a blessing,that is the case of Jonathan,Then if the whole world are praising Jonathan and Africa is nominating him for noble peace award and only you Sylva see Jonathan’s act in a north worth the praise then your head need to be examined.
