It’s 17 months to the next presidential election, but TwitterNG is already fielding its presidential candidates. So far, we have Atiku, popularly endorsed by the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan. We’re not big on ceremony here, so we’ll just stick to her alias: Mama Taraba.
There’s also El Rufai fielded by Feyi Fawehinmi (who thinks Atiku and Buhari should not be anywhere near the ballot in 2019). Then there’s a new comer, Dankwambo, who’s even been given a VP— Peter Obi. PDP supporters are responsible for this one.

Whilst political Twitter is debating the pros and cons of the different candidates, Cheta Nwanze attempts to turn our attention to something different altogether.

3/ But it is important to note this — today is 7/9/17, 527 days until 16/2/19, the scheduled date of the next Presidential Election.

4/ That we are already discussing who should be on the ballot, is an indictment of this government.

6/ Buhari has failed, there is no doubt about that, and that is not going to change. But is he the only one who has failed?
— Chxta (@Chxta) September 7, 2017
7/ There are thirty-six other men, who have in varying degrees all failed. They are closer to us, than Buhari is.
— Chxta (@Chxta) September 7, 2017
8/ There are also four hundred and sixty nine others, some of them women, who have failed as well.

9/ All this talk about Buhari, Atiku, El Rufai, etc, misses the point. The point is we have to focus first. https://t.co/4TqEPniznQ

10/ There is a constitutional amendment process underway, which will change some of the ground rules for 2019. https://t.co/Pq9gjTMYuv

11/ Have we forgotten about it?
— Chxta (@Chxta) September 7, 2017
13/ Now, let me ask a practical question:
— Chxta (@Chxta) September 7, 2017
14/ Nasir El-Rufai, the current governor of Kaduna state, is one name that is consistently mentioned as a candidate for 2019.
